Questions about Couple Counselling...

Are you open for face to face counselling?

Yes I am. My consulting room accommodates social distancing and is sanitised between clients for all our safety.  I do not offer online sessions, sorry.

Does Glasgow Couple Counselling have Counselling Qualifications?

Yes, I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from The University of Strathclyde (2003) and I have been BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) Accredited since 2007.

Are you an experienced counsellor?

I worked at the Priory Hospital in Glasgow throughout my training and for a further 5 years. I started up my Private Practice in 2008.

How do I keep my Couple Counselling knowledge and skills up-to-date?

I have 20 years of Post Qualifying CPD (Continuing Professional Development) including national and international professional trainings from the best in the world in working with all aspects of relationships. I undertake a minimum of 30 training hours annually as required by my professional body BACP.

My specialist trainings include:

How much does relationship counselling cost?

My initial session lasts 90 minutes for which my fee is £110.

Thereafter I charge a rate of £80 per hour, pro rata (appointments are usually around 90 minutes initially depending on what work we are doing)

There is a supplement of £20 for all evening, weekend and public holiday appointments.

There is a £50 deposit to secure initial appointment which may be paid by SumUp payment link. Deposit will be deducted from initial appointment fee or refunded if appointment is cancelled with more than 48 hours notice.

How do I pay?

You may pay by cash or card at our session or by bank transfer or payment link before your session.

What happens at the initial couple counselling appointment?

We explore this history of your relationship and what’s bringing you along. I will help with anything I can in that appointment and also recommend what work I think will be helpful for you. Sometimes that includes individual sessions as well as couple appointments and sometimes it’s all couple work.

What happens if a session is missed or is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice?

Missed or cancelled appointments will incur the full session fee (though if I am able to refill your appointment I will not charge you).

Can couple counselling be stopped or ended anytime?

Yes and unlike some organisations you do not have to commit to a minimum number of sessions.

How often should you go to couple counselling?

Couples often come weekly or fortnightly for the first few sessions, and then switch to having a session every 3 or 4 weeks. The choice is yours - you'll know what feels right. You're also welcome to "stop and start" as you please. Once you’ve accessed Counselling it becomes a resource you can use as and when.

How many counselling sessions do I need?

4 to 6 sessions can be very beneficial and it can also take much longer and sometimes shorter, it really depends on a number of factors.

How long is a couple counselling session?

The initial session is 90 minutes, appointments are often longer when you start couples counselling and reduce to around 60 minutes when the relationship feels better.

Am I connected to other Glasgow counselling organisations?

No, I'm fully private and independent.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. Exceptions to confidentiality are extremely rare.

What are counsellors Ethical Standards?

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) and I follow their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling. I meet BACP requirements for monthly supervision.

Who do I see?

I see individuals, couples and families of all races, religions, nationalities, and sexual orientations. All are welcome!
